Within the framework of the special regularisation procedure, the notification of the start of the procedure is the first document that applicants receive. This communication accredits the formal start of the regularisation process and includes essential information for moving forward with the procedure, as well as practical information to facilitate the next steps.

As for fees, the notification includes the corresponding payment model. If the applicant has already paid and provided proof of payment there is no need to pay again. If they completed the procedure in person, they can show the proof of payment at any post office without the need for an appointment. If the applicant completed the procedure online, they will need to provide the proof of payment via the same means.

A key element of this first notification in the process is the assignation of the foreigner identity number (NIE) and the file number. This communication authorises the applicant to live and work anywhere in the Spanish state and work in paid employment or be self-employed, in any type of job and any sector, while the procedure is resolved.

In addition, from this point on the applicant will have access to other necessary procedures, such as registration with the social security system and with the Catalan Public Occupation Service (SOC). In cases where people have not yet received the notification, it is worth remembering that the administration does not always follow a chronological order in its communication and that it is a matter of waiting to receive them through the established channels.
